Render: an illusion for iPhone

Sean Scott is a professional magician who also designs and sells illusions to others. His latest creation is called “Render,” and it makes use of smartphones that can take pictures and video. While he doesn’t (of course) reveal how the trick works (you have to buy it from him directly), in the demo video an iPhone appears to capture objects using its camera, turn them into 3D objects on the touchscreen, and even take virtual items (like a video of an origami crane) and turn them into real objects that the magician can pull out of the screen.
Render does not appear to be an app in the traditional sense, so don’t look to be buying this in the App Store any time soon, and my guess is that it combines digital effects with old fashioned slight of hand. Regardless, it’s an impressive visual. The product description says the DVD that tells you how to perform the illusion comes with a “special device” for your phone, and that it works “with hand held devices capable of viewing/taking photos videos or applications.”
