Over the years we have seen some pretty innovative input peripherals. We have seen mice which can transform their shape and ones which have so many buttons that they almost qualify as a frickin' keyboard; heck we have even seen mice which have integrated touch pads. While we have seen some radical innovations over the years the one thing all these extremely different mice, with radically different niche have in common is the fact that they all make noise when you use them. When you "click" or "double click" the buttons... you get a click.
Well it seems that some bright engineer decided he had had enough of all this noise making shenanigans and went about changing it! In what must have been one heck of a journey of discovery, the Nexus companie's engineers discovered switches which make basically no noise when activated. The end result is a Slient Mouse which makes no noise when used! In this day and age of track-pads and other input devices with zero audible feedback, this really is long over due. While this brilliant idea is limited to one mouse right now - the Nexus Slient Mouse SM-7000B, it certainly is not some "technology demonstrator" and really is a new mouse which is intended to be used by consumers.
While the Slient Mouse SM-7000B's other features are pretty darn good, such as a rubberized nonslip grip, 2.4GHz wireless abilities and multiple buttons; the SM-7000B probably is not going to cause Logitech, SteelSeries, Razer or the other big boys any sleep. We say this as while it is reasonably priced at $29.95, the Nexus Slient Mouse still is only an optical mouse capable of only 1600DPI. However, it still is a giant leap forward and we are sure many will give up some DPI and laser sensor tech in order to get a truly silent mouse!
